Did you know that Kyoto City has designated Vernal Equinox Day as “Traditional Industries Day”? The Kyoto Traditional Industries Festival is held to promote familiarity with Kyoto’s traditional industries that have been passed down through the ages.
This year, too, events are being held in Kyoto City to bridge the “makers,” “sellers,” and “users” of crafts and to provide an opportunity for crafts to be rooted in our daily lives. Kyoto is also known as a city of craftsmen, where you can find arts and crafts everywhere. In Kyoto, you can visit craft stores, galleries, hands-on workshops, open-factories, and more. The Kyoto Craft Point KYOTO MAP shows four different areas where you can find crafts and crafts in Kyoto.
Our goal is to connect people’s daily lives with craftsmanship through crafts, and to bring many people into contact with Kyoto’s traditional industries. Handmade crafts are a new meanings to our daily lives. Moreover, Kyoto’s traditional crafts are loved by people all over the world as “KYOTO BRAND”.
On the other hand, Japanese houses are sometimes decorated with traditional crafts from foreign countries. I think it is very important to understand the cultures of each country and to respect each other.
I hope that next year’s Vernal Equinox Day will be a peaceful day when everyone from all over the world can freely come to Kyoto and enjoy the Day of Traditional Industries based on a new theme.
